You’ve been watching videos and thinking to yourself “looks easy enough!” But like most things on “the Youtube”, the information is not complete, or it’s completely BS. I’m going to give you 5 key things I do and use as a professional window cleaner to make windows shine.
As a Pro, I’ve tried almost every different variety of window cleaning solution. From Windex, to making my own with Dawn dish soap and Vinegar. What works the best to clean windows? Professional concentrated window-cleaning solution. Why? Because I can make it weak or strong depending on the dirt level of the windows that I’m cleaning and also it’s designed to clean windows.
Your mop or T-Bar scrubber is used to apply your window cleaning soap to your windows. You want your scrubber to have some scrub power to it. Something soft yet abrasive. I use a Pulex MicroTiger Sleeve with high water retention. This mop sleeve loosens the dirt from the window making it easier to squeegee off.
Cleaning windows can be hard work and obviously the dirtier they are the harder they are to clean. However without the proper tools you can scrub all day and never seem to get that shine. I found using a walnut scrub pad to scrub the window corner to corner makes the windows glow like nothing else.
When your windows haven’t been cleaned in a long time it might take two or three scrubs and squeegee rounds to get that window clean again. It’s good to stand back and take a look for dirt spots on the window you’re cleaning from different angles. Maybe scratch it with your finger and then re-clean it until it is completely clean.
It’s probably not your squeegee technique that always seem to leave lines or streaks on your windows. Not all squeegees are the same!
When you buy your squeegee from Home Depot, Lowes, or other local big box stores, the squeegee has a thin metal channel with a hard interchangeable piece of rubber in it.
The thing that no one tells you is: you need to break the hard squeegee rubber in before you use it. Even then, it is still pretty difficult to use. As a Pro, I use a medium or soft “Black Diamond” squeegee rubber which is more flexible and doesn’t need to be broken in. it pulls the water off the window nice and smooth without any chatter, streaks or lines.
If you only change one thing to help your window cleaning, I would invest in a better quality rubber for your squeegee. It will help pull the dirty water off the window and make you look better doing it.
Cleaning windows like a Pro is not all about your squeegee technique but more about what you are using to clean your windows. From the cleaning solution you use, to the type of squeegee rubber you have, it matters!
I hope this helped point you in the right direction. If you think there is something I didn’t include that might help, please let me know in the comments.
